Anchorage - July 23

On July 23, we went to Whittier.  It is always sh_ _ ier in Whittier as they say.  We started out at the Alaskan Fur Exchange.  It is a quirky little shop that caught Mom and my attention.  We had to see what was inside.  Byrom is sporting a fashionable coat that he found.  The plan was to go to Alyska as well, but we did not make it that far.
On the morning of the 23rd, Byrom was coughing and said that the clean, crisp air was getting to him.

As we were driving to Whittier, there was fresh water on one side and brackish water on the other.  We drove around Turnagain Arm to do just about everything.

We are about to enter the Anton Anderson Memorial tunnel to take us to Whittier.  It is one way and the tunnel is 2.5 miles.  You can only go through tunnel either every 15 minutes or every 30 minutes.  The other time the train is going through tunnel.  There was water coming down the walls of the tunnel.  The temperature dropped 9 degrees between the opening of the tunnel and Whittier.  Whittier is the only land that separates Prince William Sound from Gulf of Alaska.

The Army built Whittier.  At the time there were no residence of Whittier, just Army.  The Army base was later condemned.

All residence (300) live in this high rise.  There are 35 students in the school at Whittier.
